How it works

The GLA451-N2OI2/N2OI3 enhanced performance quantum cascade (EP QC) benchtop analysers provide continuous and precise analysis of the site-specific isotopic ratios δ¹⁵Na, δ¹⁵Nb, δ¹⁸O and δ¹⁷O* (*N2OI3 model only) of N₂O directly and without any pre-concentration or water cooling.

The intramolecular distribution of 15N in N₂O can provide useful information about the geochemical cycle of N₂O because many biological and chemical processes have distinct isotopic signatures.

N₂O is a linear, non-symmetric molecule (N–N–O), with one nitrogen atom at the center (a site) and one at the end (b site). Therefore, you can distinguish between two structural isomers containing one heavy isotope of nitrogen, namely ¹⁴N¹⁵N¹⁶O and ¹⁵N¹⁴N¹⁶O, referred to as ¹⁵Na and ¹⁵Nb, respectively.

The LGR-ICOS gas analysers build on the heritage and proven track record of Los Gatos Research analysers, incorporating patented Off-Axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy (OA-ICOS) Technology. This is the latest advancement in tuneable diode laser absorption technology.

The GLA451-N2OI2/N2OI3 has an internal computer that is able to store data, almost indefinitely (which is useful for applications that require unattended long-term operation). It can send real-time data recordings to a data logger through its analog and digital (RS232) outputs.
